What Is Lymphatic Drainage and Why Should You Care?

Despite the fact the lymphatic system of the body plays a pivotal role in removing waste products from the body, it is not one we hear about often. The lymphatic system is a crucial player in your body’s ability to ward off disease and heal from injury. When the lymphatic system is sluggish or clogged, the body retains damaging toxins. Cellulite is only one of the common symptoms of inadequate lymphatic drainage. Others include constant minor aches and pains, low energy, susceptibility to colds and flu, not to mention swelling in your fingers, feeling stiff or sore when you wake up in the morning, brain fog, bloating, and excess weight. So, as you can imagine, this plethora of symptoms doesn’t make it easy to determine that you are experiencing a clogged immune system. The good news is, there is treatment for this relatively common affliction.

There are many approaches to help get the lymph fluid flowing again, such as starting to move again by adding exercise to your daily routine, also, avoid sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Unlike blood circulation, the lymphatic system has no central pump, such as the heart, to move fluid to the lymph glands. Instead, it uses the massaging effect of surrounding muscles to move the fluid. This is why exercise is important. Simple changes like eating a cleaner diet, incorporating red raw foods like beets, cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, berries, and simply breathing and laughing! Yes-breathing and laughing! Another common suggestion is to not wear tight-fitting clothing. However, often these lifestyle changes alone aren’t enough to combat the issue. Lymphatic enhancement therapy is available to unclog the pipes and get your lymph fluid and detoxification moving again and can include several different elements.

Compression bandages or garments, such as sleeves, gloves, stockings, or tights, fitted over affected limbs act as a counterforce to muscles. This stimulates more effective lymph drainage. The combination of exercise and compression encourages the fluid to move out of the affected limb. Compression garments may also be applied after a massage session to prevent fluid from accumulating in the limb again.

Massage is also another method to help stimulate lymphatic drainage. Specialized massages called manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) – usually carried out by a specialist therapist – move fluid from the swollen areas into working lymph nodes, where it can be drained. With the help of a specialist, you can also learn self-massage technique known as simple lymphatic drainage (SLD).

At Core IV Therapy, we offer several therapies that help stimulate lymphatic drainage. One service is the GeForce Vibration Plate, which benefits your overall health, beyond just your physical fitness. Regularly using a vibration plate for massage results in a significant increase in blood circulation in the arms and legs and helps stimulate lymphatic drainage by Increasing nutrients to the body’s cells which prompts a more effective elimination of waste products.

If you’re looking for something more subtle but extremely effective, we also offer Ionic Foot Detox. This process is based on bioenergetics technology that creates an energy field similar to the human body’s. The principle is similar to how a magnet works, except in this case the magnetic force functions to help cancel out and eliminate harmful free radicals and other toxins from the body. Ionic Foot bath is a that incorporates water charged with positive and negative ions or electrolytes. But this is no bottle of Gatorade. The bath helps draw toxins from your body out through your feet through a process of exchange between the positive and negative ions in your body, and their opposite numbers in the water.

Keep in mind that detoxification is an ongoing process in our bodies, but occasionally our lymphatic systems need a little help to keep the process moving. A regular regimen of treatments will not only stimulate your lymphatic system, but will also reduce the appearance of cellulite, encourage internal blood and fluid circulation, and bring back that healthy glow to your skin…and maybe even that skip in your step!

If you’re like me, I need answers. Why can’t I just drink water? Why is this better? Well, read on because I’m going to tell you…

Water, Water, Everywhere…

It’s really quite simple. Our bodies are made up of mostly water, 55 – 65 percent depending on age, gender, and body composition.

A large number of the population is mildly to moderately dehydrated at any given time.  People begin to feel thirsty when they have lost only around 2-3 percent of their body’s water. Mental performance and physical coordination start to become impaired even before thirst kicks in, typically around 1 percent loss.

So why is this, why is it so important to stay hydrated?  Water is the primary building block of our cells.

Most of us know, of course, that water is needed to flush out waste and toxins. I bet we can also recall from our formative years of school that our body uses water to regulate our body’s temperature through perspiration and respiration.

What we don’t think about often enough is water as a lubricant and shock absorber. It protects our brains, eyes, spinal cords, and other body tissues against any shocks when we are active, either intentionally or unintentionally. Water also enhances the function of nerve cells and protects them from thousands of chemical reactions occurring nearby. It helps in the smooth movement of our joints and allows their surfaces to slide and glide with minimal friction. Without water, movement of any joint becomes stiff and painful.

When we think of it like that, it is easy to understand how important it is for all of us to stay hydrated, especially those of us who lead active and fast-paced lives.

OK, I get it, water is good. So why IV?

The simple answer is that IV fluids hydrate you faster and better than drinking water, that’s why over 60% of people who come through hospital emergency rooms are treated with IV. But… when talking about the amazing but complicated perfection that is our bodies, simple will not do.

IV therapy is a minimally invasive technique used to get naturally occurring compounds into the body in a way that is far more therapeutic and effective than taking the same supplements orally. Many vitamin, mineral, and amino supplements are not well absorbed by the gastrointestinal system. IV therapy is a way to bypass the barriers preventing adequate absorption and achieve therapeutic levels of nutrients.  Since water is absorbed in our lower gastrointestinal tract, it can take several hours before your body actually starts to benefit from rehydration. In fact, several scientific studies have shown that it can take the human body up to two hours to completely absorb 500ml of water.  This means if you are three or four liters dehydrated (which can easily happen during a night out of drinking), it can take your body six to seven hours to rehydrate via the oral ingestion of water. Add to this that every IV bag comes with lost electrolytes and important vitamins and minerals and there really is no comparison. If there were, hospitals would be handing out bottles of water.

I have a healthy diet, aren’t I getting what I need from food?

That’s a great question and the answer should be yes….but it’s not. The main contributing factor is that soil in most parts of the world is now deficient in micronutrients and that deficiency leads to lowered micronutrients in the content it produces. Even if “junk foods” are not part of your diet, due to the rapidly diminishing nutrient value of our available produce, you are still likely to be part of 95 percent of Americans who are in some way vitamin and/or mineral deficient.

According to the CDC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA):

  • 9 out of 10 Americans are deficient in potassium
  • 7 out of 10 are deficient in calcium
  • 8 out of 10 are deficient in vitamin E
  • 50 percent of Americans are deficient in vitamin A, vitamin C, and magnesium
  • 50 percent of the general population is vitamin D deficient, regardless of age
  • 90 percent of Americans of color are vitamin D deficient
  • Approximately 70 percent of elderly Americans are vitamin D deficient

For all of these reasons and more, vitamin iV hydration is a great option. With 100% immediate bioavailability, people feel better fast with little chance of side effects. Call today to book your appointment.

While vitamin IV hydration therapy has been around for some time, recently it has been gaining in popularity and for good reason. While most people are familiar with the hangover drips made famous on reality shows and in Vegas, there are better reasons to get vitamin IV therapy. Some of those reasons are malnourishment, inflammation, and chronic dehydration, just to name a few.

So it’s good but it is it safe? The short answer is that it is safe but there are always risk with any venipuncture or invasIVe procedure. The risks include but are not limited to:

  • Risk of infection at the injection site
  • Infiltration of the vein
  • Risk of thrombosis or bruising
  • Risk of over-supplementing

While these things can happen, more serious side effects are rare. Most problems from getting an IV can be avoided by the practitioner following safe and sterile practices.

While rare, over-dosing on vitamins can occur as well. This is highly unlikely because the vitamins and minerals used in vitamin IV therapy are water-soluble so your body will take what it needs and expel the rest through urination.

Who is a Good Candidate for IV Therapy?

While most people are good candidates for IV therapy, there are a few conditions that contraindicate some for the service. CongestIVe heart failure, severe kidney disease, and pregnancy are a few of those things. Proceed with caution with diabetes, asthma, and hypertension. With these conditions and others, a few tweaks can ensure a safe treatment.

Everyone is different and has different nutritional needs so there is no one way to feel or expect after the treatment. Most people sleep great after a treatment and wake up feeling refreshed. Lifestyle and medical background will dictate how long you feel great. Few experience detox symptoms that are often described as flu-like symptoms as your body rids itself of toxins. While this is rare, if this occurs, symptoms usually subside in one to three days. Lastly, some companies use mass-production compounding pharmacies. These pharmacies use preservatIVes for longer shelf life and it is not unheard of for people to experience migraine-like headaches.

As previously stated, while IV therapy is considered a very safe practice, there are some risks. We believe that the benefits far outweigh the risks but as always, you should advocate for yourself. When considering an IV clinic or practitioner, ask what safety and sterile practices they use, question the intake process, and ask if they have preservatives in their products.

As with any new wellness practice, please check with your physician first.

Most of us have only ever encountered an IV in a hospital setting (or in a medical drama). But the truth is, this simple hookup can work wonders to make you feel better.

That’s why IV therapy has become a major health trend in the last few years. It’s a simple, straightforward way to fortify the body at a minimal cost.

Not convinced? Here are three major ways that IV therapy can bolster your health.

Prepare for Flu Season

When flu season kicks in, your body needs to be firing on all cylinders. More specifically, you need your immune system to be ready to go.

But in order for your immune system to be at the top of its game, it needs the right nutrition.

It’s a well-known fact that various vitamins, like vitamin C, can help strengthen your body’s defenses against flu season. But unlike most animals, humans cannot absorb vitamin C endogenously, which means we have to get it through our diet.

Unfortunately, it can be hard to get vitamin C in winter months, especially if you live in cold areas.

This is also true of vitamin D, which is absorbed through sunlight and isn’t found naturally in most foods.

IV therapy is a great way to deliver these essential nutrients to your body, ensuring that you absorb what you need straight into your blood so your body can start using it ASAP.

Boost Energy and Cut Down on Muscle Fatigue

Suffering from chronic fatigue? What about depression? Anxiety?

What you eat has a big effect on your mood and energy levels. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for many of us to get right nutrients from our diet.

Sure, we mean to eat well. We genuinely try. But when life gets hectic, it’s hard to keep track of everything you need to stay healthy.

Plus, in the dead of winter, after a stressful day at work and an argument with your spouse, the only thing you really want in life is a bowl of ice cream and a spoon.

Unfortunately, all of this plays out in your mood and energy. This is where IV therapy can help pick up the slack. It gives you a dose of what you’re missing to bring you back into equilibrium, ready to tackle your nastiest problems with a spring in your step.

Most people underestimate the value of staying hydrated.

Proper hydration makes it easier for your heart to pump blood and allows your muscles to work more efficiently. Your body can regulate your internal temperature and can use more resources to keep you alert.

After all, our bodies are between 55-65% water.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t drink enough water in the course of a day.

Nothing replaces your glasses of water, but IV therapy can help rehydrate you quickly, supporting vital organ functions and leaving you feeling like a million bucks in no time at all.

Need IV Therapy?

We could spend all day praising the many benefits of IV therapy.

Or, you could try it for yourself. Trust us: you’ll feel like a whole new person. And we wouldn’t blame you for being hooked after the first try.

Clients always ask us questions such as, “Why is IV therapy necessary?” and “Why can’t I just drink more water to get the nutrients I need?” Let us tell you why…

Our bodies are already 55% – 65% water depending on our age and size. After losing just 1% of our body’s water, our mental and physical performance starts to deteriorate. After losing 2%-3%, we start to feel thirsty and dehydrated. So hydration is crucial just to get us through every day tasks.

What a lot of people don’t know is that water also acts as our own personal bodyguard. It protects our body tissues against any blows when we are active. Water also enhances the function of nerve cells and protects them from thousands of chemical reactions. Additionally, it helps in the smooth movement of our joints and allows their surfaces to slide and glide with minimal friction. Without water, movement of any joint becomes stiff and painful.

By now you realize that water consumption is incredibly important. But below I will explain why IV Therapy is much better….
IV fluids hydrate you much quicker because the nutrients and vitamins go directly into the bloodstream, as opposed to being digested first. Fun fact: That’s why we get IVs when we are admitted into a hospital.

Thirst and dehydration (even in the simplest form that many people unknowingly suffer from everyday) is a complex physiological state. When we are dehydrated, and therefore chug water, fluids are actually absorbed into the lower gastrointestinal tract. Though this is the case, the effectiveness of quickly drinking water when dehydrated is reduced by the distance it has to travel and the amount that is actually absorbed.

IV hydration bypasses this whole ordeal by working through the circulatory system, which is known for absorbing nutrients faster and more efficiently as it delivers nutrients right into the body. Every IV bag comes with electrolytes and important vitamins and minerals and there really is no comparison. If there were, hospitals would be handing out bottles of water instead.

Whether you are training to be an Olympic champion or just want to have the best work performance in the office, there is a package of vitamins and minerals fit just for you.

Contact us today to find out which one is best!

IV or Intravenous Therapy is the infusion of fluids directly into the bloodstream using a minimally invasive procedure. By using IV administration, 100% of the dose of nutrients, vitamins, and fluids are absorbed, and the nutrients are immediately available to the cells, tissues, and organs. This is ideal for rapid rehydration as well as various wellness benefits including improved immune health, stress relief, better sleep, increased energy, and replenishing nutrient deficiencies in the body.

IV therapy promises to relieve hangovers, flu symptoms, jet lag, exercise fatigue, food poisoning, and general exhaustion with an IV drip of a hospital-grade sterile saline solution. In addition to saline, a variety of supplemental vitamins and antioxidants including glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin B12, vitamin B complex, or a multivitamin combination may be added to any IV treatment. Instead of enduring you symptoms or going in for an inconvenient and expensive clinic visit, let us come to you!

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a simple metabolic coenzyme of Niacin, a B vitamin that is involved in energy production for every mitochondria within our bodies. The body is able to produce and recycle enough NAD+

for general health, but as we age, this process becomes less and less efficient. Throw in diet, lifestyle habits, toxins, trauma and it becomes even more inefficient.

NAD was discovered in 1906 but we have only scratched the surface in understanding the role of NAD+ in our bodies. We do know, however, about two of the major roles it plays in our bodies: NAD+ is the cornerstone to maintaining healthy internal organs and a healthy neurological system. How does it do this? First, it turns nutrients into ATP (the energy currency of each cell). Second, it works with proteins to carry out essential biological processes such as:

ď‚· DNA repair
ď‚· Mitochondrial function
ď‚· Maintaining chromosomal integrity
ď‚· Gene expression
ď‚· Epigenetic modifications
Flooding your body with NAD+ can “bio-hack” your body into functioning better on a molecular level, and possibly safeguard you from future maladies.
Conditions that may be helped with iV NAD:
■ Alzheimer’s Disease
â–  Anxiety
â–  Benzo Addiction
â–  Brain Injury
â–  Cancers
â–  Chronic Fatigue
â–  Depression
â–  Fibromyalgia
â–  IBS
■ Lyme’s Disease
â–  Malabsorption Syndrome
â–  Methadone Addiction
â–  Mitochondrial Dysfunction
â–  Multiple Sclerosis
â–  Narcotic Addiction
â–  Neurodegeneration
■ Parkinson’s Disease
â–  PTSD
â–  Respiratory Allergies
â–  Schizophrenia
â–  SIBO
â–  Skin Allergies
â–  Stress
Now that we know what NAD is and what it can do, let’s talk about how it can help veterans…
Readjusting to civilian life after deployment is hard, and even more so when a veteran has been exposed to trauma leading to PTSD. Too often, veterans turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with symptoms of PTSD. Studies show PTSD and substance use problems are strongly related in people who served in the military.
The biochemical reasons that trauma can lead to addiction are beginning to be understood:
Trauma activates the amygdala, the brain’s threat detection center, so that it becomes hyper-vigilant, constantly scanning for and assessing threat. As a result, trauma survivors often feel intensely anxious, vulnerable, and fearful—emotions that may even interfere with sleep, worsening their feelings of anxiety, fear, and vulnerability.
The prefrontal cortex, where the brain’s “executive functions” are processed, is short-circuited when we’re in “fight, flight, or freeze” mode. Survival takes precedence over logical thinking, cognitive processing, and even impulse control. When a survivor turns to drugs for relief—and later attempts to quit their addictive behavior—the cravings can be overwhelming—retriggering the survival impulse.
The stress of trauma—compounded by the further stress of addiction—depletes the body’s NAD levels, which are needed for feelings of calm, clarity, focus, and well-being. Trauma leads to addiction, leads to NAD depletion, becoming a negatively reinforcing spiral.
Doctors often prescribe pain, anxiety, depression, etc meds to treat the problem but they often come with more side effects. After only a few appointments, we are able to restore NAD levels to the point that the brain can resume providing the stress relief needed to deal with life.
For these reasons and more Core iV is honored to be able to provide these services to veterans through the American Legion.
